Fandom Friday – Peyton Manning

Welcome to Fandom Friday, where I talk about something or someone that I like and why you should too. This week I will be writing about Peyton Manning.

First off, even if your team either plays or has been beaten (the Broncos are 2-0 this season) by the Broncos, I want you to read this blog with an open mind. I am not writing this as a Bronco fan (I am not typically a Bronco fan), I am writing this as a fan of the 6’5” quarterback- Peyton Manning. Regardless if you like him or not, you have to admit, he is a damn good player, maybe even a football guru.

With that being said, I’m going to give you reasons to like Peyton, or at least to respect the man. Like I said before, I am not a Bronco fan, but I have caught myself cheering on the Denver team because I feel Mr. Manning deserves himself a few more rings before retirement. He has worked his ass off and is one of the greats already, and has been for quite a few years now. If you think I’m lying and that I’m a fan of Denver, I can prove how much it pains me to see Peyton in Orange and Blue; I’m a Colts fan who lives in Denver. Now if you don’t know football, basically Peyton came here from Indianapolis (Colts) before last season started.  To see my ALLSTAR QB go from my team to a team that I was able to talk shit about to everyone, PAINED ME. Now, however, I have come to conclusion that regardless of where he is, he needs some more bling on his fingers. So rooting for Denver, isn’t too bad (when he retires, I can go back to talking trash).

So why should you like Peyton? Well besides the obvious- THAT HE FUCKING RULES- that’s why. Seriously, no QB has done damage to an opposing team like Peyton. He has thrown the most regular season games with at least 300 passing yards 73 times. SEVENTY-FUCKING-THREE times! (Which is a record by the way).  If you add in his postseason games as well, it turns that number into 81, which is also a record. He is the only QB with nine straight seasons of 10+ wins as a starter (2002-2010). Or how about his record for largest career TD-INT differential of 201. That’s a big number as well. Maybe the fact that he has the record for most seasons with at least 4,000 passing yards at 12! 12 seasons of 4,000+ yards (1999-2004,2006-2010,2012)! Manning holds the record for most career games with a completion percentage of 70% or higher (minimum 10 attempts) at 66.

Or the one record that really hits me hard- Peyton has played the most games with a PERFECT passer rating 4 times, 1 of which was a playoff game!

Now tell me, why should you not like this man? Maybe because he kicks the crap out of your favorite team, or maybe because he is just flat out better than your QB by a long shot.

Like I said, I am not a Bronco fan, but I am a Peyton Manning fan. The man deserves a lot of respect and as far as I’m concerned, at least 2 more Superbowl rings.
